Can’t believe it’s nearly been a year since posting about our regenerative development toolkit as a framework for creating bioregional regenerative economies
This toolkit of regenerative development frameworks, funds, trusts, and CLT’s, is scaffolded by Smart Green Group’s initial 4 stage process for approaching the work in a new region.
Starting with a Story of Place (SoP) to regeneratively map the region, we find out how big is here, and what is the essence and trajectory of this place through time.
Moving on to the project-specific Regen Dev work with community, we follow our lineages system of work in the field and actively involve our TRP community as best we can. For those interested in both these processes, follow Regenesis Group and Institute’s work… I can do it, but they will teach it
We then move on to the regen business and property development project delivery, and finish with a Documentary of the accounts of the work in place, highlighting the community’s capacity development for self-organisation and actualisation
Here is a short clip on our initial approach on a project in Bairnsdale, Victoria
The last two weeks working on Melbourne’s SoP has been very interesting for me, as not being from or having spent much time there, I haven’t had the chance to fall in love with the place, which seems to happen through the SoP processes as you unearth the deep secrets of each region
The team and I have done the first pass on the SoP research, going back a few hundred million years, understanding the geology and geomorphology, climate and hydrological cycles, first settlement of flora and fauna and its transition through time, first to last settled people, and the complex web of its modern bells and whistles in its ever-evolving spirit
In the next few weeks, we will be gathering the willing and able to start the interview process and bring this unique story with the people of Melbourne, to the people, for the people, and work with community to envision a higher-order of Vocation that this beautiful, unique place can dream towards
With the community, we will anchor this vision in projects ranging from business and property development to more industry and sector-scale work that remodels the infrastructure of our modern civilisation across all the capitals
After finishing the first phase to developing the foundations of a regenerative economy, we will release the documentary telling this beautifully unique story, like all of them are
So what is next? I ask here on your behalf…
The exciting part. The part where my team and I get to escape our computer screens and venture out into the world to start the interview process that reinforces or dispels all our crazy ideas and theories developed through the research
We have a growing list of experts in each field to start the door knock with, and if you find yourself on the other end of that door, please don’t lock it!… we come in good faith, in good will, and with my favourite vegan gift vouchers for you to buy yourself something yummy and cruelty-free
So I guess, this is my call to action for the people and practitioners in Melbourne… we are not only coming we are already under your feet in the preliminary work and looking to galvanise all layers of community through this initiative, from our Clan of The House of SGG, through our Fellow TRP community, to the people and self organised groups across Melbourne, all nested within this unique place that we have decided to define through its hydrological cycle… well, you Melbourne Basin, have self-identified as a land settled hydrological system... we hear and see you, and I can’t wait to meet you properly
